In a quiet, but profoundly powerful merger, two of the leading voices for equity in education have become a united force for good.
The Forum for Education and Democracy (FED) and the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES) announced their merger on Jan. 13th. The new organization will be called the Coalition of Essential Schools, and it’s newly merged board will be chaired by George Wood.
CES, founded by education visionary Ted Sizer, is a network of amazing schools around the nation who agree on a set of principles which include personalized learning, democracy, and equity. FED, a self-described “action-tank” has long fought for public education to fulfill its primary mission: “the preparation of thoughtful and engaged democratic citizens.”
