Responsibility and delight can co-exist. -Philip Pullman

I teach 2nd and 3rd grade English Learners in a high-poverty, high-achieving public school in northwest Arkansas. My first children's book, titled Clubhouse Clash, will be coming out this winter. I have been working to scale up home libraries as a literacy intervention for at-risk readers after seeing remarkable results with The 1,000 Books project, an initiative I started to provide each of my students with a home library of 40 books. In 2007 I became the Arkansas Teacher of the Year; I'm also a 2006 Milken Educator and a 2011 National Board Certified Teacher. Outside the education sphere, I'm an avid reader, a runner, and dad to a 5-year old daughter and 2-year old son.
