WORKING CONDITIONS BRIEFS
Given the length of the full working conditions report, Governor Mike Easley commissioned CTQ to write a series of briefs that highlight different aspects of the Working Conditions Initiative and findings from the analysis of the 34,000 teacher surveys. These briefs together provide policymakers, stakeholders, practitioners and policymakers with information about working conditions in a more succinct format. Summary of Findings: This brief summarizing the six findings from the full report, demonstrating the connections between working conditions, student achievement and teacher retention, showing the gap in perceptions of teachers and principals, explaining that working conditions are all interconnected, reflective of school conditions and are perceived similarly, regardless of the background of the teacher. Recommendations: Written by Governor Easley, these recommendations, based on SECTQ’s recommendations from the full report, profile state, district and school level actions to improve teacher working conditions. Executive Summary: This brief provides the executive summary for the full teacher working conditions report. About the North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions Initiative provides the rationale for studying working conditions, making connections to teacher retention and explaining the evolution of the initiative. Resources and Response for Teacher Working Conditions Data: Information about how schools and districts are using their working conditions data to improve teaching and learning in North Carolina is provided as well as initiatives currently underway in other states. In-Depth Analysis of Five Teacher Working Conditions Areas provides trends from the full report for each of the five working conditions areas studied: time, empowerment, leadership, professional development, and facilities and resources. |
