Findings for Clark County, Nevada

The Clark County School District (CCSD) and the Clark County Association of Educators (CAE) conducted the 2006 Teaching and Learning Conditions Survey to provide data that can be used for data-driven school improvement planning, faculty conversations and consideration of district and school policies and programs.

Analysis of the approximately 8,500 survey responses (representing 47.5 percent of CCSD educators) demonstrates that working conditions are critical to increasing student achievement and retaining teachers. Five primary findings from the analysis of the teacher working conditions data are included in the full report:

  • Teacher Working Conditions are Student Learning Conditions
  • Teaching and Learning Conditions Affect Teacher Retention
  • Teachers and Administrators View Working Conditions Differently
  • Schools Vary Widely in the Presence of Teaching and Learning Conditions
  • Clark County Teachers are More Negative about Working Conditions than Teachers in Other States

Clark County is taking action to respond to this data by making educators central
to the process of interest-based problem solving. The Clark County Teaching and
Learning Conditions Team (TLC Team) is comprised of released teachers and
retired principals trained by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services. The TLC team is currently working with 14 schools in CCSD to engage in interest-based problem solving using survey data. The TLC Team provides a valuable model for responding to data with a sustained effort toward meaningful school reforms.
