Washington New Millennium Initiative

The Washington NMI core team is made up of 10 teachers from the Seattle metro/Puget Sound area of Washington state who are leaders in their school, district, and state communities. Washington NMI teachers are committed to serving their own students and advocating for systemic improvements at the district and system levels. The team has focused its efforts on two policy issues that it considers to be critical for school improvement: student assessment and teacher evaluation systems.

Their August 2011 report, How Better Teacher & Student Assessment Can Power Up Learning, outlines how the state could most effectively implement its new teacher evaluation law. They suggest innovative ways to measure what students have learned, improve teaching quality, and spread the expertise of effective teachers.

NMI is currently accepting applications from Seattle metro area teachers with strong content and pedagogical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a desire to promote effective education policies. For more information or to get involved, contact  Alesha Daughtrey.
