The Illinois New Millennium Initiative core team is comprised of fourteen accomplished educators from across the state, including several rising, progressive union leaders with new visions of the role that unions can play in education reform. The state passed a new teacher evaluation law in 2010, but the Illinois team has found that few teachers, principals, or school staff know what’s in the legislation or how it will affect them. Together, the Illinois NMI teachers have developed materials, available in early 2011, to help educators and education officials understand the new law – and to understand the best practices for evaluation that should guide its implementation.
