Teacher Preparation and Professional Development

Effective teaching depends greatly on the quality of teacher preparation pathways and professional development. Teacher preparation models do not always prepare teachers specifically with skills for effectiveness. Similarly, teacher professional development is too often brief, generic, fragmented and ineffective. New teachers need a preparation program that sets them up for success and uses components demonstrated to be effective. And, all teachers need a long-term and sustained professional development program that emphasizes peer collaboration and focuses on improving instruction.
