John Norton, Senior Consultant

John Norton is co-founder of CTQ's Teacher Leaders Network and moderator of the TLN Forum. As part of his work with the Center, he also supports the development of key publications, new virtual teacher communities, and overall communications strategies.

A graduate of Clemson University, John is a former daily education reporter and vice president of the national Education Writers Association. His 1984 series on educational neglect in a rural South Carolina school system received EWA’s national First Prize for Investigative Reporting. From 1986-90, John was executive director of the South Carolina Center for Teacher Recruitment. In 1990, he joined the Atlanta-based Southern Regional Education Board as vice president for information. Since 1996, he has worked as an independent education writer and consultant. From 1996-2002, he reported regularly on middle grades reform efforts in urban school systems receiving major grants from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation. Currently, John also serves as editor of Working Toward Excellence, the journal of the Alabama Best Practices Center, and supports ABPC’s multi-year initiative to promote 21st century learning strategies in Alabama public schools.
