Dana Nardello, Teacherpreneur

As a 2011-2012 teacherpreneur, Dana is a teacher coach for Aurora Public Schools (Aurora, CO) and also spends part of her week supporting results-oriented efforts toimprove Colorado’s schools. Specifically, she is organizing recruitment, advocacy, and new product development for the Denver New Millennium Initiative (NMI) team. The Denver NMI team is currently focused on the effective implementation of thestate’s new teacher evaluation law, and Dana works alongside the Colorado Legacy Foundation to advance the NMI team’s goals.
 
Dana is dedicated to increasing student achievement and teacher effectiveness, particularly in urban areas. Prior to her role as a teacher coach, Dana was a high school literacy teacher and department chair at Aurora Central High School. Dana received her teaching license and master’s degree from the University of Colorado, followed by her principal license from the University of Denver. Dana’s teacher leadership experiences have included working with the Colorado Language Arts Society, the Denver Writing Project, and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). She was one of 50 teachers in the nation to receive NCTE’s leadershipdevelopment award, which recognizes dynamic secondary teachers who have a positive impact on student achievement and a continuous commitment to professional development and collaboration with colleagues.
