Diana Montgomery, Senior Research Associate

Diana Montgomery directs research and evaluation projects examining policies and practices related to the preparation, support, and retention of teachers.

Diana’s scope of work includes investigations into effective teacher mentoring models; research on establishing professional learning communities to enhance the retention of quality teachers; evaluations of teacher education initiatives funded by Teachers for a New Era; development of quality indicators for assessing and improving teaching quality in K-12 schools; studies of the effective use of National Board Certified teachers, and considerations of the quality and effectiveness of alternative certification programs.

Diana’s background in science and mathematics research, evaluation and policy analysis is reinforced by her extensive experience in qualitative research and the design and implementation of large-scale evaluation studies. She has experience at all levels of the education system — including classroom teaching, professional development for teachers, pre-service teacher education, and systemic education reform.

Diana received a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina, an Masters in science education from East Carolina University, and a BA in biology and psychology from St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
